Parade
of Playhouses
Something new and exciting is coming to Lexington this summer! In conjunction
with the Parade of Homes presented by the Home Builders Association
of Lexington, the Ronald McDonald House will present our first annual
Parade of Playhouses.
The Parade
of Playhouses will take place July 26-August 4 . At that time, five
unique playhouses, constructed and donated by local builders, will be
on display on a lot in Hamburg along with the Parade of Homes houses.
Each playhouse will be raffled and the lucky winners will be picked
on Sunday, August 4.
Raffle tickets for each of the five playhouses will be sold throughout
the event and the raffle will take place on Sunday, August 4. If you
can't wait until then to see these special playhouses or buy your tickets,
check the following schedule for display locations prior to the Parade
of Homes. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25 and may be purchased at
most display locations.

Our special
thanks go to the five local builders donated their time and talent to
construct the playhouses that will be displayed and raffled. They are
Atchison Construction & Sheeran Construction, Ball Homes, Hodges
and Heathman Properties, Homes by Jo and Nazareth Builders. Our appreciation
also goes to the Home Builders Association of Lexington for helping
to make the event possible.
You can help! Volunteers are needed to work at all display locations
and the Parade of Playhouses itself. The Parade of Playhouses has potential
to be a great fundraiser for our Ronald McDonald House, but we need
volunteers to help make it happen. For more information, call Beth Blackman
at the Ronald McDonald House at 266-8683.
House Renovations
There's never been a better time to come tour and learn about
the Ronald McDonald House here in Lexington! Our house has a bright,
fresh look after four months of renovations were completed in March,
2002.
Prior to
the renovations all 21 bedrooms were in major need of repair. The bedroom
areas now have a new look - instead of wallpaper, each room has a fresh
new look of "knock-down" paint that brightens up the rooms.
All bathrooms now have tile flooring and tile on the walls around the
bathtubs, as well as new fixtures, tubs, vanity, toilet and lights.
New windows, air conditioning and heating units were installed in each
room. New furniture, drapes and blinds completed the project and provide
a colorful and cheerful atmosphere. In addition, the two handicapped
rooms had their bathrooms made larger to meet current handicap codes,
and roll in showers also replaced the tubs in these bathrooms. One smaller
bedroom was converted to office space.
Our thanks
go to Benjamin Moore for donating the paint and Kohler for donating
the bathroom hardware. Both companies are national donors for the Ronald
McDonald House.
The renovation
project was tremendously successful due to the combined effort of the
Renovation Committee, architect Jack Stewart and Manus Construction.
The Renovation Committee, chaired by Linda Lightfoot, included Mary
Evans, Mary Jean Jenkins, Brooks Meador, Pat Miller, Bettye Page, Debby
Radcliffe, and Joyce Trivette. Our thanks and congratulations to all
those involved!
