You can help in three ways - volunteer, donate, or help us tell our
story.
You
Can Volunteer!
Volunteers are essential to the operation of our Ronald McDonald House.
This year, over 150 volunteers will give their time and talents to maintain
the house and grounds, provide services for our guest families, and
provide the funding necessary to make it all possible.
If you
are interested in helping us "provide a home away from home",
there are many ways that you can help. Look over the information below
and let us know if you have questions. If you are ready to volunteer,
simply complete the Volunteer Application and return it by mail or e-mail.
You can
call us at 268-0757 or 268-8683. Reach us by e-mail at rmhc@mis.net.
You can also use our handy contact form
on this web site.
- In-House
Volunteers: In-House volunteers perform a variety of duties including
checking families in and out, answering the phone, visiting with guest
families, and making up rooms for incoming guests. A training session
is required and newcomers are paired with experienced volunteers until
they are comfortable working on their own. In-House volunteers are
asked to commit at least one 4-hour shift per month.
- Van
Drivers:
Our Ronald McDonald House transports families to and from area hospitals
three times per day, and once a week to the grocery store. Van drivers
are needed for all runs. A current driver's license is required and
driving records will be checked on all prospective van drivers. Van
drivers are asked to commit to at least one shift per month.
- Event
Volunteers: Individuals and groups are needed to staff fundraisers
and other special events as they arise. See our News & Special
Events section to find out what special events you can help with in
the next few months!
- One-time
Group Projects: Many groups like to help with projects that don't
require an on-going time commitment and can be scheduled for a day
and time that works well for their particular group. Preparing dinners
for our guest families, landscaping work, and cleaning projects are
examples of helpful group projects. Please call if your group is looking
for an opportunity to be involved!
You
Can Donate!
Our Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit organization and receives
no United Way or government funding. We rely on individual and corporate
donations in order to keep our doors open 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year. There are several ways you can help!
- General
Donations: Tax-deductible donations assist in supporting the daily
operations of the house. The actual cost to house a family for one
night is $56.
- Wish
List Donations:
The house can always benefit from donations of canned and dry food
goods, new linens, cleaning and office supplies. To view our complete
Wish List, click here.
- Honorarium
and Memorial Donations: Gifts to the Ronald McDonald House can
be a wonderful tribute for a friend or loved one. A note will be sent
to both the recipient and donor. Unless otherwise designated, gifts
will be used to fund house operations.
- Fundraisers:
You can support our Ronald McDonald House by contributing to any of
our existing fundraisers. To find out more about our upcoming fundraisers,
click on our News and Events section. If your office or group would
like to conduct a fundraiser of your own to benefit the house, we
can help with ideas! Call 266-8683 or e-mail us at rmhc2@mis.net.
- Pop-tab
Fundraiser: Individuals or groups can raise money for the Lexington
Ronald McDonald House by collecting the pull-tabs that open aluminum
cans. These pure, high-grade aluminum tabs are recycled and the funds
are used for annual operating costs.
You
Can Tell the Story!
Like so many good stories, ours is not told often enough! Many in our
community don't know about the house, the great need that it fills,
or the great volunteer opportunities that we offer. If you belong to
a group that looks for speakers and positive messages, we would appreciate
an invitation to share our story. Call 266-8683 or 268-0747 to schedule.
